Take a walk on the wild side with this peek into nature while discovering how to track an animal and use it’s ?footprints? to learn more about how it lives. Mad Science Rockin Rockets & Aerodynamics:
July 5 – 9, 2010, Time: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm for 5 – 12 year olds – Cost: $129.00 (after May 3rd $149.00). Room 112-113 in the Light House. From the earliest flying machines to the first rocket flights, this week long hands-on program will teach you how to build many different flying devices. See how Newton’s Laws of motion help explain how things move, how rockets fly and show you how amazing our Milky Way is. “The Wright Stuff”, children will explore the fundamentals of aerodynamics in this hands-on program about how things fly. “Up, Up and Away” this day we will explore the role that wind and the movement of air play on simple flying devices. “Milky Way” What is the Milky Way and how do we know what’s up there? ?Newton’s Loco-Motion” Sir Isaac Newton was very curious about how things move. “Rockin’ Rockets” Throughout this day, campers will learn the fundamentals of rocketry including the parts of a rocket, the stages of rocket flight, and how Newton’s third law applies to a rocket launching into space. This action-packed camp explores the chemistry of everyday life! Campers will learn chemistry the Mad Science way with dry ice, pH testing, glowing chemicals, sticky polymers, beakers andhand-in-hand as our campers discover what machines and nature have in commo. Take apart pellets to see what an owl cannot digest! View the world through a camera obscura that you make yourself. Join a team of camper engineers and build bridges, domes, cubes and pyramids. Assemble and control pulleys, levers, catapults, simple machines and megapinchers! Make your own sidewalk chalk, crystal gardens and chromatography-dyed T-shirt! Jr. Engineers, investigate arches and geodesic domes and find out why these shapes can hold tons of weight! Discover why an egg’s shape is so strong and how you can find this shape in buildings. Machine Mania, find out how wedges, screws and levers help us in our daily lives. Crazy Chemistry, become a Mad Science chemist as you learn all about the different chemicals that you encounter everyday in your house and at school. Shutterbugs! How does a camera work? Use ooey-gooey ingredients to build a model cell and use your own traits to decode and decipher your DNA. Cell City – Take a fantastic trip into cell city. The Organ Trail – Do you know the recipe for a healthy body? Scene of the Crime - Team up with fellow campers to solve the ?Ice Cream Caper? crime. Chemical Counting – Turn a lemon into a battery. Become a paleontologist and go on a Dinosaur Dig! You’ll investigate the habits, needs, and characteristics of dinosaurs and explore the fossilization process in this fun, hands-on Mad Science camp. It’s all about dinosaurs! Digging for Dinos – Children will participate in a mini dinosaur dig that will engage their attention as well as their scientific skills. Dynamic Dinos – Find out where Dinos cam from, what their names are, what they looked like and where they are now. Dino Diets – Carnivores, Herbivores, and Omnivores? Dinosaurs…What Happened? Explore the theories that made dinosaurs extinct. All About Dinos – from birth to death, Dinos ruled the earth. Make a rainbow and a chemical clock in a cup.
