Joel Brantner
Assistant Pastor of Next Generation Ministries

If you look closely in Exodus to what Moses asked Pharaoh, you’ll see that initially Moses was asking if he could take the enslaved Israelites on a retreat to worship God. I believe this is a biblical precedent for taking students on retreat. We are so bombarded with life and stress-points that sometimes life is louder than The Life! Getting students away from the distractions of life to experience the True Life found in Jesus Christ is always a special thing. For those of you who missed it, please be sure to sign up when it rolls around next year. You won’t regret it!

For this year’s ski retreat, we enjoyed our rest and study of God’s word at Pipestem State Park and had a blast, about forty-five minutes away, on the slopes of Winterplace in Ghent, West Virginia...Continue Reading

Are you up to the task?

A challenge inspired by Pastor Jim’s Jan. 11th sermon is to “Ice the Complaints!” for 21 days. Joel Brantner and Helen Harrison Coker started it and passed it along to Jim who has continued the challenge. (You can watch all three challenges on our SGPC YouTube page.) Some individuals are taking it literally as our pastors have done, while others are merely committing their hearts and minds to the challenge stated in Philippians 2:14, "Do everything without grumbling or arguing."

Are you up for the “Ice the Complaints” challenge? Join us literally and/or spiritually to trust in God and fast from complaining for 21 days!

Know that our Winter/Spring Classes have begun!  On January 14th our Wednesday night programming started.  We have dinner starting at 5:30 PM, while Youth starts at 6:15 PM and most other classes are held from 6:30-7:30 PM.  On January 25th our Sunday night classes kicked off!  Most classes begin at 5 PM, but check the appropriate webpage (e.g., children, adult) for details.  Our sermon series "The Land Between,” which is based on the book by Jeff Manion, continues through February 15th. “Life is full of unwanted transitions. It is our response to the land between that will determine whether our journey through the desert will result in deep, lasting growth or prove destructive to the soul.” - The Land Between

Get details on Winter/Spring Classes on the Adult ministries webpage.  Join us this New Year to worship our Lord!
